Jim Smith knows it is vitally important that we continue to pass balanced budgets, control spending and keep taxes low so hard-working Hoosiers can keep more of their hard-earned tax dollars. He firmly believes government should only ask its citizens for the minimum necessary to provide essential services -- and not one dollar more. As a member of the Senate's Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee, he helped pass the largest tax cut in Indiana history including a 5 percent reduction in the personal income tax, authored and passed legislation to eliminate the death tax and under his leadership Indiana has some of the lowest property taxes in the nation.
