Secretary of State and US Senate candidate Natalie Tennant has been touring our state to raise campaign awareness. On Saturday, she made a stop in our area to talk about equal pay for women.

Tennant's jobs tour hit Bridgeport Saturday, as several supporters came out to listen to her message. It was the sixth stop of her tour. One of the big issues covered was women's pay. Tennant says supporting jobs for middle class families will be her number one priority in the Senate if elected. She also believes she knows how to fix job issues in the Mountain State.

"This is what I hear from citizens of West Virginia as I'm talking to them. They know how important good-paying jobs are, and they know how important equal pay for equal work is, especially in West Virginia when a woman makes 70 cents to the dollar a man makes," Tennant told 5 News.

Tennant's supporters say they believe the government needs to be more fair to women working corporate jobs.

"It's just women's issues for corporations to give women paid leave when they have a baby, and just to be fair," said Harrison County resident Fran Cornelius.

Tennant's platform includes the use of traditional jobs in the Mountain State such as coal mines and chemical plants, but also ideas that she says will make our state more competitive for newer jobs.
