Governor McCrory Signs Executive Order for Equal Opportunities

Governor Pat McCrory issued an executive order today that requires equal employment opportunities for all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, age, disability and genetic information.

"This order ensures fairness and encourages people to work for state government," said Governor McCrory. "Insisting on nondiscrimination will strengthen our state and demonstrate that we value diversity of thought and each of our citizens' unique backgrounds."

The state of North Carolina workforce is comprised of more than 87,000 employees throughout state government agencies, universities and community colleges.

"It is a priority for the state of North Carolina to implement and utilize human resource practices that are nondiscriminatory," said Neal Alexander, director of the Office of State Human Resources. "Fair and impartial treatment of our applicants and employees should be of utmost importance to guarantee fairness throughout an applicant's experience or an employee's career."

In North Carolina, equal employment opportunity-related executive orders have been issued by governors James B. Hunt, James G. Martin, Michael F. Easley and Beverly Eaves Perdue. Governor McCrory is proud to join his predecessors in supporting policies that promote a diverse workforce.
