Labrador Applauds Supreme Court Ruling on Religious Freedom & Obamacare

Location: Eagle, ID

Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-ID) applauded the Supreme Court's decision today in the landmark case of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby. The high courtoverturned one of the most controversial aspects of Obamacare - the requirement that employers must provide birth control and abortifacients to their employees, even if doing so violates their deeply-held religious beliefs.

"This is a tremendous victory for religious freedom in America," said Rep. Labrador. "No American should be forced to choose between following their faith and submitting to unlawful and unnecessary government mandates. The HHS mandate, by violating freedom of conscience, needed to be overturned and repudiated. The Supreme Court's decision breathes new life into one of our most important freedoms and eliminates one of the most destructive aspects of Obamacare."

Hobby Lobby is an arts-and-crafts chain run on biblical principles. They objected to the life-terminating drugs and devices required under the Obamacare mandate (better known as the "HHS mandate") on religious grounds. By refusing to obey the HHS mandate, Hobby Lobby was facing annual fines of $36,500 per employee, coming to nearly $657 million per year.
