Fitzpatrick, House Pass Bill to Cut Prices at the Pump

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released the following statement Thursday regarding the House passage of the Lowering Gas Prices to Fuel an America that Works Act [H.R. 4899] - yet another bipartisan bill to spur economic growth and job creation through increasing access to America's abundant energy resources:

High energy prices squeeze American families by raising the cost of everything from the price at the pump to the cost of groceries at the store. Today's bipartisan passage of the 'Lowering Gas Prices to Fuel an America that Works Act' is another step toward declaring energy independence and utilizing our energy resources to support families and businesses. I stand firmly behind the House's efforts this week -- and throughout this Congress -- to commit to a responsible national energy strategy that lowers costs, creates jobs and removes our dependence on foreign energy from unstable regions.

H.R. 4899 proposes a drill‐smart, job‐creation plan that would require the Administration to move forward with new offshore energy production in areas containing the most oil and natural gas resources - generating over $1 billion in new revenue over ten years according to the Congressional Budget Office and creating up to 1.2 million jobs long‐term. Additionally, the bill would modernize and streamline government process that block and delay onshore American energy production.
