End Corporate Person hood.

Statement

Today the Supreme Court decided that corporations are entitled to religious rights. In doing so, they all but declared that corporations are entitled to the same rights and privileges as you or I am. Already SCOTUS has equated money to free speech in thier Citizen's United ruling pricing elections out of the hands off all but those backed by corporations. Now they have allowed corporations to discriminate and hide behind veils of religious freedom or other statuses that an individual enjoys.

Today SCOTUS allowed corporations to use religion for denying to provide health coverage to women. Tomorrow it could be refusing to hire someone because of their sexual orientation or any excuse they wish. A corporation could fire someone for any number of reasons and then hide behind even the flimsiest of religious veils. And with the attacks made by the court on the Unions today, you would have no ally to defend you or to speak out for you.

Today SCOTUS not only gave corporations equal protection, they made them more equal than you.

It is time that we stand up to those that think corporations are people. I propose a constitutional amendment that would restrict citizenship to live persons. Corporations are entities of the state, the state does not have the ability to create a person.

Corporations did not hit the beaches of Normandy; corporations were not at the Alamo, have not risked their lives for their neighbor. Corporations did not raise the flag at Iwo Jima nor plant the flag on the Moon. Corporations are not made of flesh and bone. They cannot be held accountable for the lives they cost for faulty products they make, tort reform protects them from that. Despite the willingness of Texas to execute people at the drop of a hat, even Texas cannot execute one.

The choice is ours, we can allow ourselves to turn our nation and ourselves into minority shareholders in this great country of ours or we can take strides to make this country great for real people.
