Blog for Iowa is in the bag for Dave Loebsack. We will work to get him re-elected, donate to his campaign, and point out the positive things he is doing. While the corporate media focuses their spotlight on the antics of a dithering Republican Party, we will focus on Loebsack's good work for Iowans.

Nothing has changed from January, when BFIA wrote, "it is precisely his outlook and process in the congress, combined with his committee assignments, that make him a strong legislator, one who will hopefully serve for many more years. As time goes by, Dave Loebsack will gain seniority on two committees that are critical to the future direction of our country." Well, something changed. Loebsack's seniority and hard work paid off for Iowans.

On April 7, Loebsack was appointed ranking member of the House Education and Workforce Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education.

"Dave has been a critical part of the Education and Workforce Committee from day one and I am pleased that he was chosen to lead one of its subcommittees," said Representative George Miller, senior Democrat on the Education and the Workforce Committee. "His experience as a former educator will bring a unique perspective to the subcommittee. I look forward to working with Dave to pass legislation that can improve the lives of all children across the country."

It took seven years of seniority combined with Loebsack's hard work and experience to get here, but those who know Loebsack expected this of him. Read the full press release on his selection as ranking member here.

Loebsack won re-election three times and this cycle's opponent is Mariannette Miller-Meeks (MMM) for the third time. Loebsack stands head and shoulders above his opponent when it comes to representing Iowa's second congressional district because of who he is. Here's how Dave acted in constituent interests:

Loebsack has worked to pass common sense legislation that would create jobs here at home and not send them overseas. He has worked to repeal policies that encourage companies to ship jobs overseas.

Loebsack was raised in part by his grandmother who relied on Social Security Survivor Benefits to raise him and his siblings. He knows how important it is to protect Social Security. He has also fought to protect Medicare because seniors have paid into Medicare every month and have earned it.

Loebsack is a cosponsor of legislation to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 to support working families.

Loebsack believes we must hold Congress accountable by cutting the pay of members of Congress and banning members of Congress from ever becoming lobbyists. He has authored legislation to do both of these.

Loebsack has fought to lower the cost of going to college and increase access to student loans so anyone who wants to has the opportunity to attend college.

Loebsack helped get the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act signed into law and is a leader in the fight to pass the Equal Pay Act.

Loebsack has worked on a bipartisan basis to fix areas of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that need tweaking while keeping needed protections in law.

BFIA asked Cedar County resident Laura Twing why she liked Dave Loebsack.

"Dave, specifically is a progressive liberal, which is good in my opinion," said Twing. "He has a background in non-privileged areas, and has worked in education, which is the key to any quality future. He is a strong supporter of women's rights, and dignity for working people."

We're in the bag for Loebsack, and we don't believe the third time will be a charm for MMM. Expect Loebsack to take nothing for granted between now and Nov. 4.
