Tiahrt Votes to Protect Marriage
Rep. Tiahrt and wife Vicki vote in advance

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) and his wife Vicki have returned their ballots for the April 5th general election. While not divulging any other ballot selections, Rep. Tiahrt did disclose he voted for the marriage amendment and encouraged other Kansans to do the same.

"Throughout history, marriage between one man and one woman has been the bedrock of any successful culture," said Tiahrt. "It is unfortunate it is necessary to amend our Kansas Constitution to protect the fundamental definition of marriage, but an activist court has led us down this path. For those who argue that cannot happen in Kansas, I would simply point to the recent Kansas Supreme Court decision to overturn our state's death penalty.

Neither our laws nor our Constitution changed; our governor simply appointed liberal judges who apparently had a different agenda than that of the people of this state. We cannot jeopardize the sanctity of marriage with this court in power. I encourage Kansans to support the amendment on Tuesday."

Tiahrt is also a proponent of the federal marriage amendment, which would define marriage in the U.S. Constitution as a union between one man and one woman.
