Under the U.S. Constitution, providing for a strong national defense is a central pillar of our government. As a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Sessions has consistently promoted robust funding for our national defense programs. He is a steadfast supporter of our men and women in uniform and he believes that they should have the best training, tools, and resources available as they carry out their missions overseas and at home.

The leadership role of Senator Sessions is fitting, given that Alabama is home to some of the most important defense facilities in the country. From Fort Rucker to the Anniston Army Depot, Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, and the 117th Air Wing in Birmingham, and the Coast Guard station and shipbuilding for the Navy in Mobile, to Huntsville's leadership in missile defense at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama is at the forefront of our nation's defense.

With continued military operations taking place around the world, Sessions firmly opposes Congressional activities that politicize the funding for our men and women in uniform. Sessions has called on Congress and the American people to support our troops who bravely sacrifice for the welfare of our country.

Our Armed Forces, including Reservists and the National Guard, sacrifice greatly to serve our country. With our troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, our nation must give them the support and care that they need to recover and find a job. Senator Sessions has shown consistent leadership to improve benefits, advance educational opportunities, and increase pay for our men and women in uniform.

Sessions, a veteran of the Army Reserves, supports all who served. He also led the most recent fight against the unfair cuts to veteran pensions in the 2013 budget deal and, thanks in part to these efforts, the cuts he opposed to disabled veterans' were reversed. Sessions continues to lead efforts to achieve a fair fix for all retired military personnel.
