Memorial Day A Time for Thanks and Reflection

Location: Parkersburg, WV

Heading into the Memorial Day weekend West Virginia State Auditor and 1st congressional district candidate Glen Gainer extended his profound gratitude to all service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

"Memorial Day offers a unique opportunity for all Americans to reflect and give thanks on the price paid by so many to keep us free and preserve our way of life," said Gainer. "As Henry Ward Beecher wrote in 1863 "They hover as a cloud of witnesses above this nation.'" Gainer added, "It is all together fitting that we use the occasion of Memorial Day to rededicate ourself to the grand ideals of our republic so that the sacrifices of our honored dead will not have been in vain."

"As the state with the highest number of men and women serving in uniform per capita West Virginian's know all too well the dedication, hardship and sacrifice that our service personnel make. As we gather with our family and friends this weekend, let us each pause to remember and give thanks to those that have given their lives that we might be free."
