Mike Bost Challenges Bill Enyart to Debates, Beginning in July

Mike Bost is calling on first-term Congressman Bill Enyart (IL-12) to a public debate in each county that encompasses Illinois' 12th Congressional District, beginning in July on a day when Congress isn't in session.

"The issues facing our country are too important for voters not to have multiple venues to hear the candidates," said Mike Bost. "I am calling on Bill Enyart to commit to a series of debates in each county -- allowing voters to see and hear the candidates first-hand. Anything less is a lost opportunity."

In a letter to Congressman Enyart on June 17, Bost proposed the first debate take place either on July 18 or July 21 when Congress is not scheduled to be in session followed by the remaining eleven continuing into August and ending in October. Each debate should allow a public audience to be present and have the opportunity to ask and submit questions to the candidates.

Appearing in public and answering questions that are not pre-arranged by staff might seem like a deal breaker for Bill Enyart, but after a year and half in office it's time for him to finally interact with his constituents, not only as a congressman but also as a candidate for office.

Congressman Enyart's congressional campaign has yet to respond to Mike Bost's request for debates. With the clocking ticking on the first debate, hopefully Congressman Enyart isn't letting time run out. He should let the voters know sooner rather than later whether they can look forward to hearing from the two candidates in mid July.
