Joined by nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors and other health care professionals, Governor Sean Parnell today signed several health care related bills into law. Legislation signed included Senate Bill 169, establishing a statewide immunization program. SB 169 also creates the State Vaccine Assessment Council within the Department of Health and Social Services. Senator Cathy Giessel sponsored the legislation.
"These bills are key to keeping Alaskans healthy while working to control health care costs," Governor Parnell said. "I appreciate Senator Giessel and all of the health care professionals who have worked tirelessly to ensure Alaskans' health care needs are met."
Governor Parnell also signed two other pieces of legislation, including:
Senate Bill 166 updates state statutes regarding nursing, keeping them current with the many changes in the nursing profession. Senator Cathy Giessel sponsored the legislation.
Senate Bill 135 extends the Alaska Health Care Commission sunset date from June 30, 2014 to June 30, 2017. Senator Donny Olson sponsored the legislation.
