Issue Position: Education

Issue Position

I believe a strong economy begins with good schools. That's how we attract employers and prepare our children for the jobs of the future. Maryland schools are consistently ranked first in the nation for funding, but we need to be sure we have top performance. I will continue to push for more resources to support our schools and join with you to ensure our children get the best they deserve. I am also proud to have my Subcommittee support budgets that led to the lowest tuition increases for public 4 year higher education over the past 7 years -- only a 3% increase while the national average was 27%! Working with the Board at St. Mary's College, we were actually able to reduce tuition for students entering in the Fall of 2014.
