Issue Position: Reining in the Obama Administration

Issue Position

President Obama and his administration have shown a blatant disregard for the law. From Fast and Furious to Benghazi, from the IRS's targeting of conservative groups to the disastrous Obamacare rollout, this administration has fundamentally ignored the laws that Congress has passed. This is unacceptable behavior for an American president, and I'll keep up the fight to rein him in.

One of the ways that I'm doing that is through my post on the Appropriations Committee. My colleagues and I have learned that when the Administration doesn't respond to subpoenas, Congressional inquiries, or requests to testify before Congressional Committees, the most effective way to get their attention is simply to cut their budgets. In the most recent Appropriations bill, I included language that kept agencies from using the President's budget request to justify their actions--essentially forcing federal agencies to follow the laws Congress makes. I will also use the Appropriations committee to zero out funding for President Obama's illegal czars and executive actions. The House controls the power of the purse, and House conservatives will use it to rein in this lawless administration.
