Cummings' Statement on Memorial Day

Statement

Date: May 27, 2014
Location: Baltimore, MD

Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day:

"Memorial Day offers us a special opportunity each year to recognize the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the servicemembers who have given their lives to defend our nation. These men and women, and the families they have left behind, have earned our never-ending gratitude.

"The members of our armed forces are often the best example of the valor and heroism that we cherish as Americans. While we honor the memories of the fallen, we cannot forget the many who return. Over the last five years, nearly two million veterans have come home -- many of them in need of medical care, employment, and support. I can think of no group more worthy of our assistance. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to ensure that our veterans have access to the resources they need."
