Maine Regional and Municipal Airports Receive Federal Funding

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced today that Maine wouldreceive over $1.25 million in grants from the FAA to expand a maintenance building and clear runway approach obstructions at Knox County Airport, as well as rehabilitate runways throughout the state.

"Municipal and regional airports are a critical part of Maine's transportation system. They connect far corners of our state and makevaluable contributions to local economies," said Pingree. "It's important that they get the maintenance they need to be as safe and efficient as possible. I'm glad this federal investment will help do that work without putting more of a burden on local property taxes."

Knox County Regional Airport is receiving two grants totaling $925,000. One for $400,000 will be used to remove obstructions in therunway approach. The other, for $525,000, will expand a snow removal equipment building to extend the life of existing equipment.

The following airports across the state will receive $301,000 to strengthen and seal runway surfaces--Auburn-Lewiston Municipal, Belfast Municipal, Bethel Regional, Central Maine Airport of Norridgewock, Eastern Slopes Regional, Sanford Seacoast Regional, and Wiscasset.
