Issue Position

I support the recent efforts to keep our streets and neighborhoods safer by tightening penalties on young drivers who drive drunk. Also, our police and fire departments need the most up-to-date equipment and technology.

Regarding disaster preparedness, Maryland needs to significantly increase outreach and education on how families and communities can be prepared for any future disaster. I support more opportunities for residents to be trained in "CERT" (Community Emergency Response Team), a program that teaches individuals how to assist their community or workplace after a disaster. I also support legislation that would make price gouging during an emergency a crime.

To increase support for our police departments and disaster preparedness efforts, I support creation of a "Community Corps" that would encourage citizens to volunteer with public safety and health agencies and schools. Residents could provide assistance to law enforcement agencies, fire departments, hospitals and other organizations that are first responders in emergencies.
