Good, sound education policy is the lifeblood for the future of any state. Our district's schools play a vital role in training, motivating, and preparing today's students to be the leaders of tomorrow. A legislator who is committed to promoting economic prosperity and a strong, skilled labor force is a legislator who should be committed to education.

As a Delegate, I will not support the Common Core Initiative. Education is a local matter, and a "one-size-fits-all" policy determined by bureaucrats rejects and ignores the differing needs of our teachers, our students, and our classrooms. Government cannot best prepare our students and meet the needs of our schools by nationalizing education. Government's role in education policy should be to listen and provide: listen to the needs of our students, our teachers, and our schools and provide the resources needed for them to succeed. As a Delegate, I will fight for our schools and I will fight to keep decisions on our children's' education in the hands of local decision-makers, not government bureaucrats.

Expanding on this, I support the right of parents to choose to homeschool their children if they are unhappy with the government-mandated curriculum. The government has no power to tell a parent he or she cannot homeschool their child.
