Sabo Statement on 2005 Supplemental Appropriations Act
March 16, 2005

Washington, D.C.-Following the passage of H.R. 1268, the 2005 Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror and Tsunami Relief, Congressman Martin Olav Sabo (D-MN) offers the following statement:

"While I opposed the start of the Iraq war, I voted for the supplemental bill because I believe we must try to help the Iraqis stabilize their war-torn country. President Bush has put American troops in harm's way, and they need the proper equipment to do the difficult job of restoring peace," Congressman Sabo said.

"I am troubled, however, that the Republican leadership denied Democratic amendments to fund better veterans' healthcare. It is callous to praise the troops in battle, but deny them the care and support they and their families need at home."
