U.S. Representative Dan Maffei today released the following statement regarding H.R. 3361:

"I believe it is important to keep our country safe and protecting our national security must be the highest priority, but it is critical that we do not infringe on the civil liberties of the American people. We must balance our national security with our responsibility to uphold and protect the Constitution. Unfortunately, today's legislation does not go far enough to protect the personal privacy of Americans, which is why I stood with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to oppose it. I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure we are protecting Americans' rights while protecting our national security."
