Tom Reed Votes to Hold VA Managers Accountable

Tom Reed voted in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act of 2014 Wednesday, a bill to give the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs a greater ability to remove employees from the VA based on their performance.

"Growing allegations that VA hospitals across the country are delaying care for our nation's veterans reinforces the need to restore accountability within the VA," Reed said. "Those found responsible for poor performance need to be held accountable, regardless of their position. The VA is responsible for the care of thousands of our nation's veterans and it's only fair those whose performance isn't up to par be removed. This country's heroes deserve the absolute best care possible."

The bipartisan bill passed in the House Wednesday gives the Secretary of Veterans Affairs the authority to remove employees of the Senior Executive Service due to poor job performance. With allegations growing of patient care delays and an investigation by the VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) underway, this bill gives the Secretary the tools needed to hold those found responsible, accountable for their actions.

The bill is supported by a wide range of veterans organizations including the American Legion, Concerned Veterans for America, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) and the Reserve Officers Association.
