Rangel Statement on LGBT Pride Month

Press Release

Congressman Charles B. Rangel released the following statement today in celebration of LGBT Pride Month:

"As we commemorate LGBT Pride Month, we celebrate the dedication and progress that our country has made in the struggle for equality and justice for all persons.

Recognition of the LGBT community is also a wonderful opportunity to take pride in our national achievements to end discrimination and promote equality. We have witnessed numerous successes ranging from the termination of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" by the Obama Administration to the Supreme Court's recent ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act and Proposition 8. I am very pleased that our country is making bold strides to create opportunities for all Americans.

We have come a long way in fighting for full equality and upholding one of our nation's most beloved values: that all men and women are created equal. Nonetheless, much remains to be done. I cannot and will not rest until Congress enacts the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and ends workplace discrimination.

This June, let us build upon our past successes to create a better future and maintain our status as the greatest nation on earth by embracing and supporting every American, regardless of their gender, race, or sexual orientation."
