Press Release

Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan has directed flags to half-staff in New Hampshire until noon on Monday, May 26, and all day on Friday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.

"Each year on Memorial Day, Granite Staters and Americans come together to pay tribute to the heroes who courageously made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation," Governor Hassan said. "We owe a never-ending debt of gratitude to those who have sacrificed their lives so that their fellow citizens may live in peace. I join all Granite Staters in honoring our fallen heroes, their families and all of our veterans for their dedicated service to every American, to our shared values and to the enduring concept of freedom that is our very core."

Governor Hassan has issued a proclamation declaring Friday, May 30, 2014, as Memorial Day in the State of New Hampshire. On Monday, the Governor will participate in the Plaistow Memorial Day Ceremony honoring Vietnam veterans and ceremonially sign HB 1389, legislation naming a bridge in Derry the Lance Corporal Michael E. Geary Bridge. Lance Corporal Geary was killed in combat operations in Afghanistan in 2010.

On Friday, Governor Hassan will speak at the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
