Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement on President Obama's nomination of Julián Castro, mayor of San Antonio and a rising leader in America, to be the next Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):

"President Obama has made an excellent choice in nominating Mayor Julián Castro to be the next Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Mayor Castro's leadership has put the city of San Antonio on a new trajectory by refocusing on building infrastructure and revitalizing the city's underserved urban communities. Mayor Castro has emerged as a champion of American business and residential renewal. He deserves speedy Senate confirmation so he can hit the ground running as our next Secretary of HUD."
