Price Statement on Budget Committee Poverty Hearing

Statement

Date: April 30, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

House Budget Committee Vice Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), responded to the committee's hearing on poverty today, saying:

"Today's hearing is an important and instructive part of our ongoing effort to focus attention on tackling poverty in America.

"Our vision is meant to foster the greatest amount of opportunity for the greatest number of people. Unfortunately, Washington often stands in the way of people achieving true economic mobility and reaching their dreams.

"We are committed to finding real, compassionate solutions to the ongoing challenges of poverty facing our nation. Americans are good and decent people who want to care for their neighbor in need. At the same time, we have a responsibility to use hard-working taxpayer dollars in the most efficient way that maximizes the benefit for those we mean to help.

"Poverty is neither a Democrat nor Republican issue, neither liberal nor conservative. I look forward to continuing to work with Chairman Ryan and our entire committee to develop specific ideas to eradicate poverty across our country."

Rep. Tom Price, M.D., represents Georgia's Sixth Congressional District. He is also a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, as well as the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. An orthopaedic surgeon, he spent more than 20 years caring for patients in the metro Atlanta area.
