Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson's (FL-24) bipartisan House Resolution 573, condemning the abduction of Nigerian schools girls by Boko Haram, passed unanimously by the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The Congresswoman issued the following statement:

"Today, the Foreign Affairs Committee acted together on behalf of the young women in Nigeria by condemning the latest act of terror by Boko Haram," said Congresswoman Wilson. "The adoption of my bipartisan resolution sends a clear message to Nigeria and the international community: Women around the world have the right to be free and live without fear. Women should not be forced to risk their lives to get the education they want and deserve.

"I thank the leadership of the Foreign Affairs Committee -- Congressman Royce, Congressman Engel, Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, Congressman Smith, and Congresswoman Bass -- and leadership of the House --Speaker Boehner, Leader Pelosi, and Leader Cantor -- for ensuring that this resolution is brought to the House floor for a vote.

"I add to my voice to the chorus heard around that world that three weeks is far too long for young women to be in the hands of terrorists. All I want for Mother's Day are these girls back."
