Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on the April jobs report:
"Yet again, the monthly jobless rate fell only because more Americans stopped looking for work and our economy remains the weakest in modern history. Economic growth slowed to a near halt during the first three months of this year, so it's no wonder that the president's job approval rating is at the lowest it's ever been. Five years into his presidency, Americans are still struggling under the Obama economy and wondering why so many years after the recession the job market is still sputtering.
"We cannot wait another day to jumpstart the economy and get middle-class Americans the quality jobs they need. President Obama can take the first step by building support for new trade agreements that can reach untapped markets, boosting U.S. exports and creating jobs at home. The Senate must also act on the dozens of House-passed jobs bills that are gathering dust on Harry Reid's desk. We desperately need economic policies that spur growth and put the millions of unemployed and underemployed back to work."
