Governor Scott Walker Attends 2014 Council of Great Lakes Governors Executive Meeting

Governor Scott Walker joined members of the Council of Great Lakes Governors for their 2014 meeting, themed "Accelerating Progress," and built on the successful communication established during last year's meeting. The Council focuses on regional economic development, improving the overall competitiveness of the region, and environmental issues pertaining to the Great Lakes.

"Collaboration between our states will ensure the Great Lakes region continues to be a hub for manufacturing and tourism, as well as an environment that is cherished and well protected," Governor Walker said. "I am glad we were able to build off the successes of last year's meeting and work toward a stronger coalition of states focused on the same goals."

In addition to Governor Walker, Secretary and CEO Reed Hall from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Secretary Cathy Stepp of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Deputy Secretary Matt Moroney of the DNR, along with other staff from the DNR took part in the meeting. Attendees addressed an array of topics, including the environment, economic development of the region, the economic impact of tourism, aquatic invasive species, and trade and foreign investment in the area.

The Council of Great Lakes Governors is made up of the governors from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and the Premiers of Ontario and Québec.
