Lance Denounces Militant Tactics

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07), the Co-Chairman of the House Republican Israel Caucus, today issued the following statement regarding reports that pro-Russian militants are forcing Jewish Ukrainians to register their names and property:

"I am appalled by the news out of the Ukraine that pro-Russian militants are mandating Jewish citizens "register' with the forces who are trying to force Ukraine to become part of Russia. Today's news harkens us back to some of the worst times in human history. I immediately call for the world community to denounce these tactics and allow the Jewish people to practice their faith freely."

USA Today has reported that militants are distributing paperwork in the city of Donetsk, Ukraine, that calls for all Jewish people to register as Jews. The leaflet demanded that the city's Jews supply a list of all property they own, or else have their citizenship revoked, face deportation and have their assets confiscated.
