Governor Hassan Statement on House Passage of Joshua's Law

Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on the House's bipartisan vote to pass Joshua's Law, legislation that establishes a crime of domestic violence in New Hampshire law.

"Today's passage of Joshua's Law is a significant step forward for the safety of our families and our communities, and I applaud the House of Representatives for its overwhelming bipartisan support of this common-sense measure to establish a crime of domestic violence.

"By taking this important step, we will help law enforcement and prosecutors better identify and stop repeat abusers, while providing victims with access to support and protections as early as possible.

"Although we will never be able to relieve the pain caused by the tragic murder of Joshua Savyon, enacting this bill in his memory will help countless families and communities. I thank Joshua's mother, Becky Ranes, for her inspiring strength and her efforts to make us all safer, as well as Senator Soucy and legislators from both parties for working to pass Joshua's Law. I look forward to signing this critical public safety measure into law.
