Issue Position: Grocery Tax Appeal

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

Idaho families are burdened by some of the highest income tax rates in the West. Making it easier to provide the necessities of life for Idaho families by reducing the cost of groceries just makes sense. I led the charge in 2007 and 2008 to implement the grocery tax credit Idahoans currently enjoy, which was once vetoed by Governor Otter, but now it is time to take these taxes off at the till, and I sponsored legislation in the Idaho legislature to do just that. Eliminating the tax on food will provide welcome relief to every family in Idaho. I am pleased that there is bi-partisan support for this bill, and I look forward to seeing this legislation become law.
