Byrne Statement on Tax Day

Statement

Date: April 15, 2014
Issues: Taxes

Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1) released the following statement on Tax Day.

Byrne said: "Another year has come and gone, and Americans are still paying too much in taxes with too little to show from their government. Our priorities are out of balance. President Obama has asked for 442 tax increases on the American people since taking office -- one reason why his unrealistic budget proposals fail every year to gain even marginal Democratic support in Congress. Job creators and entrepreneurs continue to experience roadblocks to their success set in place by the very government that is supposed to represent their interests. The result is a sputtering economic recovery and limited growth.

"Winston Churchill once said: "We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.' I wholeheartedly agree. That's why I supported the House Republicans' budget last week which repeals ObamaCare, lowers and flattens our tax structure, and cuts spending to reduce the debt. I'll continue working with my colleagues to pursue tax and budgetary policy that alleviates these burdens on our job creators to unleash the potential of our American economy."
