Braley Statement on Reports that Bullying Legislation is Stalled in Iowa Legislature

Statement

Date: April 8, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Bruce Braley (IA-01) released the following statement today after reports that legislation designed to target bullying had stalled in the Iowa House after having passed the Senate earlier this year.

"Students deserve an environment where they feel safe from bullying--and teachers and administrators deserve the resources they need to provide that environment," Braley said. "Bullying in Iowa schools has already led to incredible tragedy, and it would be a shame to watch legislation designed to address this problem fail again at the state level."

Last year, Braley worked with Senator Tom Harkin to introduce The Successful, Safe and Healthy Students Act. The law seeks to bolster anti-bullying efforts by creating two grant programs that can be used by local schools to develop and implement programs designed to prevent bullying and create a positive learning environment for students.
