Governor Sean Parnell today signed legislation that defines medical necessity for purposes of public funding for abortions.
"While the Alaska Supreme Court requires the state to fund certain abortions, the court has held the state may define and fund what is medically necessary, rather than funding elective abortions," Governor Parnell said. "I commend legislators, and in particular Senator Coghill, for their thoughtful consideration and hard work to pass this legislation defining medical necessity."
Signs HCR 21 - Child Abuse Prevention Month
Governor Parnell today also signed HCR 21, proclaiming April 2014 as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The resolution, sponsored by Representative Geran Tarr, received unanimous support in the Legislature.
Signs SCR 20 - Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The governor signed SCR 20, a resolution carried by Senator Kevin Meyer, proclaiming April 2014 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The resolution received unanimous support.
