Congresswoman Fudge Statement on the Fatal Shootings at a Jewish Community Center and Jewish Retirement Center in Kansas

Statement

Date: April 14, 2014
Location: Warrensville Heights, OH

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement today in the aftermath of shootings at two Jewish community facilities near Kansas City, Kansas on April 13th that resulted in the deaths of three people:

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the innocent people whose lives were cut short by terrible acts of violence at the Jewish Community Center and a retirement center near Kansas City, Kansas. There is no place in America for hatred and anti-Semitism that targets individuals solely because of their faith, yet the recent shootings are a grievous reminder that such hate still exists."

"As Jewish families in the U.S. and around the world prepare to gather for Passover, this tragic loss of life reminds us we must redouble our efforts to ensure justice and reject all forms of religious, racial and ethnic intolerance in our midst. No one should feel unsafe anywhere based on their faith or culture. I stand with the Jewish community today and every day, and ask our fellow Americans to defend the freedom of all people to live and worship as they choose without fear of prejudice or violence."
