Rep. Mark Takano Statement on McCutcheon v. FEC

Statement

Date: April 2, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Earlier today, Rep. Mark Takano released the following statement after the Supreme Court released its ruling on McCutcheon v. FEC, effectively removing annual limits for federal campaign contributors:

"Today's split decision by the Supreme Court further erodes the essence of Democracy by allowing the top one percent to pour even more money into our politics. Corporations are not people and money does not equal speech, in regards to our political process. If we have learned anything since the Citizens United ruling, it is that we must institute a system of campaign finance reform so that elected officials are not beholden to big money campaign donors. This continued corruption of our democracy must be stopped and we must return to a system where our nation's wealthiest can no longer buy their own elected officials."
