Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) met with local leaders of the Cleveland-Ukrainian community at the Ukrainian Museum-Archives in Cleveland to discuss his support for Ukraine, including his vote in favor of a Ukraine aid package that will authorize security, financial, and technical support for Ukraine as well as his cosponsorship of a bill that would ensure the United States does not recognize Russian control over the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine.

"The United States and its allies must stand with the Ukrainian people during this time of Russian aggression, and I appreciated the opportunity to meet with local leaders of the Cleveland-Ukrainian community today," Portman said. "I'm pleased we were able to discuss issues currently facing Ukraine and look forward to continuing our work together."

"We are grateful to Sen. Rob Portman for his steadfast efforts on behalf of an independent and sovereign Ukraine," said Andrew J. Futey, Executive Vice President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America. "He continues to be a strong leader and advocate in protecting Ukraine's territorial integrity, assisting and aiding its economic needs and advocating for its energy independence from Russian gas. He is a true leader and we are so grateful that he met with representatives of our community this morning to discuss the current situation.
