Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

U.S. Representative Kristi Noem today launched the South Dakota Veterans Advisory Board. Made up of veterans from across the state, Rep. Noem will look to the Board to provide insight on a wide range of local and national veteran issues.

"The future strength of our military and defense systems relies on our ability to treat veterans of today with the respect, dignity, and gratitude they have earned with their service," said Rep. Noem. "I look forward to working with these distinguished women and men to ensure the needs of America's veterans and their families are met."

Bob Nelson, a South Dakota veteran and a member of the South Dakota Veterans Advisory Board, said: "I am honored to be part of Rep. Noem's Veterans Advisory Board and am looking forward to working with her on the many issues that impact veterans and our families. I see this as a real opportunity to have an open dialogue with Congress about how proposed changes would impact veterans and what new tools we need as service members leave 21st Century battlefields."

Rep. Noem held her first meeting with the Veterans Advisory Board on Wednesday, March 26. The board includes South Dakota women and men who have served abroad in war zones, such as Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as those who have responded to domestic and global natural disasters. Multiple branches of the military are represented as well. The board will meet frequently to discuss issues impacting South Dakota veterans.
