Congressman Tom Rice (SC-07) today released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers (SAW) Act:

"Tourism is a leading industry in my district, and many of my constituents work in the service industry," said Congressman Rice. "In the service industry, it is common for part-time employees to pick up shifts for coworkers or work double shifts during peak season. This flexibility puts more money in employees' pockets and helps employers adjust to customer flow.

"Obamacare shortened the full-time work week from 40 hours to 30 hours a week. This massive legislation also mandated businesses to purchase health insurance for their employees if they employ more than 50 full-time workers or more. This change has left part-time workers with less available income.

"In my district, Obamacare's 30-hour rule has restaurants, hotels, golf courses, and vacation rental companies up in arms. I was proud to vote today in favor of this bill, and restore the 40-hour work week," concluded Rice.
