Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen announced her support for two bills that will help South Florida prepare for meteorological and medical eventualities. The bills are:
the Weather Forecasting Improvement Act of 2014, which allows for the redirection of federal funds so that NOAA can invest in short-term forecasting technologies that enable more accurate predictions and forecasting; and
the Children's Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act of 2013, which would support medical education programs based in children's hospitals.
Both bills would help improve South Florida's preparedness by working to ensure we have a more precise forecast of major weather events before they happen and adequately trained medical personnel.
Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
"South Florida lives in perennial fear of major weather events be it winds, thunderstorms, or hurricanes. Any lead time on these storms will help ensure that families and businesses can plan ahead. Additionally, working to have the best trained staff at our hospitals will only help our population during any time of the year. South Florida deserves top-flight medical care and forecasting so that we can always be prepared for any eventuality."
