Over 350 Community Members Gather for Re-entry Town Hall and Resource Fair for Formerly Incarcerated People and Their Loved Ones

Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.), State Senator Holly Mitchell (D-Culver City) and Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer, Sr. (D-South Los Angeles) welcomed hundreds of community members and advocates to a town hall and fair at the Crenshaw Christian Center recently, to discuss criminal justice reform.

As California implements and the federal government discusses reforms to the state and national criminal justice system, Congresswoman Bass, State Senator Mitchell and Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer brought together policy makers and service providers to hear from the community about the type of resources that are needed for individuals and families that will be affected by the policy changes.

"I want to thank Senator Mitchell and Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer for collaborating on putting the town hall together and for their tireless and thoughtful approach to reforming California's criminal justice system," said Congresswoman Bass. "We need California to lead the way on reducing recidivism rates and providing much needed services for formerly incarcerated individuals. With leadership like Sen. Mitchell and Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer at the state-level and Attorney General Eric Holder and Congressman John Conyers, the highest ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, at the federal-level, we are working to bring the necessary reforms and changes that will benefit families and lift up our communities."
