Van Hollen: Immigration Reform Good for Families and America's Fiscal Health

Statement

Date: March 24, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score of the bipartisan Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (HR 15):

"Today's CBO report reinforces the fact that comprehensive immigration reform doesn't just make sense for families, but for our nation's fiscal health. The House's bipartisan legislation to address our broken immigration system will reduce the deficit by $900 billion over the next two decades and boost the economy by 5.4 percent. We could create jobs, reduce the deficit, and grow the economy if Speaker Boehner would simply allow democracy to work its will on the floor of the House. It's time for a vote."
