Cassidy Comments on Senate Passage, Urges President to Sign Flood Insurance Reform

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy commented on the Senate passage of the Grimm-Cassidy amended version of the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act. Dr. Cassidy was an original sponsor of the legislation. Additionally, he co-authored a letter with Congressman Michael Grimm of New York to urge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to hastily schedule a Senate vote on this legislation. Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

"The Senate's passage of the Grimm-Cassidy amendment means we are one step closer to bringing long-term, permanent flood insurance relief to families across the nation. Since the unintended consequences of Biggert-Waters first surfaced, it has been a priority to safeguard Louisianans from unrealistic flood insurance rate increases and to protect our housing market and economy. I urge the President to sign this legislation as quickly as possible."

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor offered the following remarks:

"Representative Cassidy has been a leader in the fight to ensure flood insurance remains affordable to all Americans affected by Biggert-Waters. I applaud his determination to work across party lines to ensure this legislation passed the House."

Representative Michael Grimm (R-NY) offered the following remarks:

"[Bill Cassidy] literally wrote the bill with me in a very demonstrative way. Bill Cassidy is probably one of the most knowledgeable Members of Congress on flood insurance."
