Meehan: Lerner's Refusal to Testify "A Breach of the Public's Trust"

Press Release

Date: March 5, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC-- Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-07), a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement after former IRS official Lois Lerner refused to testify during the committee's hearing on the agency's improper targeting of conservative groups today.

"It's disappointing that Lois Lerner refuses to give the American people the answers they deserve about the IRS' improper behavior," said Congressman Meehan. "American taxpayers put their trust in civil servants like Lerner to administer the laws passed by Congress fairly and impartially. Lerner's refusal to answer key questions about the IRS' activities is a breach of that public trust."

"The American people deserve better from their public servants, and I'll continue to work with my colleagues on the Oversight committee to get answers on the IRS' actions and hold those responsible accountable."
