Rangel Statement On Senate Agreement On Unemployment Insurance Extension

Statement

Date: March 13, 2014
Location: New York, NY

Congressman Charles B. Rangel today made the following statement regarding the bipartisan Senate agreement to extend unemployment insurance:

"I am extremely pleased that the Senate has the done right thing and reached an agreement to extend unemployment insurance benefits to the 2 million jobless Americans who have not received their checks since the program expired last year in December. New York City residents have struggled during this economic recovery. We should be doing everything we can to help them get back on their feet. While this bill will only renew the benefits until the end of May, it will give them a major boost. I urge Speaker Boehner to bring the Senate bill to the House floor as quickly as possible. This bill meets his requirements, since it is fully paid for and includes provisions to help the long-term unemployed to find jobs."
