Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) released the following statement in response to the funding for local flood protection projects that was included in President Obama's Fiscal Year 2015 budget outline. The budget allocates over $94 million to Sacramento's flood protection projects.

"The Fiscal Year 2015 budget released today by President Obama provides a strong outline for creating jobs, expanding opportunity for all Americans, and making key investments in our future, while continuing to responsibly pay down the deficit. While we continue to face tight fiscal constraints, the President's budget proposal includes much needed federal investment in key projects in the Sacramento region.

"Flood protection is essential to the safety and economic vitality of our region, and it remains my number one priority in Congress. In his Fiscal Year 2015 budget, President Obama has requested over $94 million to fund Sacramento's flood protection projects. These projects will help our region achieve 200-year flood protection, protecting lives, property and infrastructure. The President's budget outline is a good start for Sacramento's flood priorities and I will continue working every day to see that our flood protection priorities get the federal attention and funding they require.

"I am also very pleased to see that the budget outline released today includes $1.3 million to the City of West Sacramento for the dredging of the Deep Water Ship Channel. This funding is for operating and maintaining the Deep Water Ship Channel and will help facilitate commerce at the Port of West Sacramento."
