Ensuring Educational Opportunities for Veterans

New York's 26th Congressional District's nearly 50,000 veterans have made unprecedented sacrifices in service of our nation. When our troops complete their service to our nation, it is imperative that the government fulfills its obligation to assist them in preparing to reenter into civilian life. We must realize that caring for our veterans is far more than thanking them for their service -- the obligation runs deeper than that. We must provide our veterans with the skills and training they need to fill both the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Since the enactment of the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill, hundreds of thousands of veterans, spouses and dependents have chosen to attend career colleges and universities, and Brian remains committed to providing our veterans with training and instruction resulting in success in civilian life and in the 21st Century workforce.

Ensuring Veterans Receive Deserved Benefits

A backlog of disability claims has forced a growing number of veterans suffering varying ailments to wait for months and sometimes more than a year for word of whether the federal government will help them. That is unacceptable. Our nation's servicemen and women deserve to have expeditious access to the benefits they have earned. The VA has set an encouraging goal of ending the backlog by 2015, and my efforts are focused on helping them accomplish that.
