Issue Position: Jobs & The Economy

Issue Position

"Partisan shouting matches in Washington and the extreme agenda of the Tea Party have distracted our current Congress from addressing what matters most: Creating new jobs and lasting economic growth."

My wife and I own a small business and we understand first hand that most Hawaii families work in businesses that are small. I will work to end the tax breaks for the largest multinational oil and drug companies, and end the Washington mentality that forces small businessmen and women to fight for their lives every day.

In Congress, I will push for tax credits and low interest loans for small business to open and expand. I will push for research and development incentives so all businesses -- large and small -- have an opportunity to be leaders in innovation.

I want America to begin rebuilding our transportation and communications infrastructure, which will make us safer, more modern and will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs. I believe our schools need to be rebuilt nationally so that our children can attend state of the art learning facilities, while we create new jobs.

And, we must invest in alternative energy. Let's use our own wind, sun and water to generate clean power while creating jobs right here that can never be outsourced. Solar panels require electricians, high efficiency windows are installed by carpenters, and thermal water heating technology requires trained plumbers. I want our state to have as many of these employers as any other in the nation.
