Issue Position: Creating Jobs

Issue Position

Politicians in Washington D.C. love to talk about creating jobs. The reality though is that government does not create jobs. Seven out of every 10 jobs are created by small businesses. The best thing Washington can do is set a policy that encourages job growth and makes it easier to start and run a small business.

I believe that we need to start by reforming our tax code. We need to simplify the thousands of pages of IRS code so that small business owners can work on growing their business instead of filling out an IRS form.

We need to cut the red tape from Washington that is strangling small businesses. We need regulations that make sense. Too often, small business owners are left filling out paperwork, rather than meeting with customers. Every dollar spent on complying with regulations is a dollar that cannot go to buying more equipment, hiring more workers or giving raises.

I passed a bill in Missouri that requires every regulation to be reviewed every 5 years to make sure it"s not strangling small businesses. I will bring that same Missouri common sense to Washington.
