Issue Position: NSA

Issue Position

While the protection of our nation's security is a vital role of the Federal Government it must operate within the proper restrictions of the Constitution. The NSA overreached their boundaries and intent of the Foreign Surveillance Act, which was focused on terrorists and not American citizens. I voted in favor of the amendment to the Department of Defense Appropriations bill that would end blanket authority for the collection of records under the Patriot Act and ban the NSA and other intelligence agencies from collecting phone and other records for those not under investigation, unfortunately it failed to be included in the final bill.

As Congress continues to investigate actions of the NSA, I will work with my colleagues to protect the privacy and Constitutional rights of all Americans.
